VARSITY ANGELS TAKE OUT WOMEN'S CLUB COMPETITION

9 May, 2007

In a repeat of their 2005 efforts the Varsity Angels won the Grand final on March 10th, after wrapping up the league title with one game to spare.  In what was a closely contested final, the Angels outscored the young Harbour Hawks side (the Hawklings) 14-11 in one of the best club lacrosse games seen in the competition to date.  The Hawklings, consisting of many of the New Zealand Under19 team players due to compete in the World Cup later this year, showed how far they have come over the last 12months under the guidance of the under19’s coaches Anne Henderson, Jess Evans and Phil Cowper “QUOTE??”

However on the day the experienced Varsity Angels side proved to strong, running out to a 5 – 0 lead within the first 5 minutes of the game, which proved to much to pull back for the young runners up.  In other results on the day, Westforce beat the Harbour Hawks to clinch third place, and College Rifles overcame the Varsity College Rifles combined team for Fifth.
