SECONDARY SCHOOLS LACROSSE 7 July, 2007
The Auckland Secondary Schools girl’s league is currently running and is due to finish on 26 July. Over the past years since lacrosse has been introduced to New Zealand the schools league has continually grown and become more and more popular. The Auckland Secondary schools league currently boasts 18 teams made up by 11 schools and is divided into three divisions. The schools currently involved are Auckland Girls Grammar, Avondale College, Diocesan, Epsom Girls Grammar, Mt Albert Grammar, Pinehurst, St Dominic’s College, St Marys College, Western Springs College, Westlake Girls and Whangaparoa College. Games run weekly after school on Thursdays. The teams from the schools league can then go on to play in the Auckland Secondary schools lacrosse championships being held this year on August 10. Any other Auckland school is also welcome to enter into this event even if they haven’t participated in the schools league. The other championship event that any Secondary school team can enter into is the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championship. This is also being held on August 10 this year. In past years Whangarei Girls High School and Rodney College have participated in this event and there is increasing interest with teams in Wellington and Christchurch starting to pick up lacrosse.
