JUNIOR BOYS LACROSSE IN AUCKLAND
At the current time, there are two age groups for junior boys lacrosse in Auckland, under 15 and under 18.
We have had juniors playing on a casual basis for several years and in 2005/2006, Harbour won the first ever New Zealand Lacrosse Championship at the under 18 level.
In 2006/2007, under 14's were introduced and the final was a thriller between the Eastern Chiefz and the Remuera Rifles, with the Rifles staging a remarkable final quarter come back from 3 goals down to score the winning goal in the final minute.
The 2006/2007 under 18 title was contested by 4 teams, the Titans, College Rifles, Eastern Chiefz and Mount Albert Grammar. The final was eventually fought out between the Titans and the Rifles and was even more thrilling than the under 14 final. The Titans looked to have the title until the very last second of the game when the Rifles equalized. The game went into extra time and the Titans went ahead again, only to have the Rifles come back and tie the game up again at the end of extra time. The game went into "sudden death" and the winning goal was scored by the Rifles.
In the coming club season, there will be 4 teams competing at the under 15 level. All games are to be played on Friday evenings at College Rifles from 6.45 pm from the first Friday in November and the final will be held mid December.
Under 18's will have their first games at the beginning of December, in order to avoid "exam season" and their season will continue early February and conclude early in March.
We have great hopes for a number of our current juniors, that they will be selected in our senior national side for the 2010 World Championships in Manchester, England.
